Post-It-NOT

Post-IT-NOT

The "Garden City" of India, has the distinction of being the fastest growing city in Asia. Bangalore accounts for almost half of India’s IT services earnings. Bangalore is not just an Indian City. It’s a major city in the world map. Bangalore is a Brand that sells. It projects India’s IT prowess.

Walk around the city and who will say we have anything “world class”. The city streets are strewn with filth. None has heard of a thing called “garbage bin”. The city walls are anybody’s property. Anyone can stick Posters, Banners and graffiti anywhere. Subways, Traffic signs, Compound walls, electric posts are all favorites. Even trees have posters stuck on it. Stand still, and someone may place a poster on your back!

Bangalore is attracting a steady stream of overseas business every year. All major MNCs have set shop in Bangalore. But how many people from overseas will want to come and live in Bangalore. Given a choice they would prefer operating from Singapore or Malaysia or Dubai than from Bangalore. None of those places have the “Beautiful Bangalore Weather” or the talent bank. But all those places are clean. If we remain complacent it is a matter of time that we loose the Brand. Time to act is now.

It does not cost anything to clean the city walls. In fact we can generate revenue in the process. The corporation can setup billboards that blend with the surrounding and earn money by lending space. A legislation banning unauthorized advertisements is not a bad idea. We “obey rules” rather than “follow rules”. Then everyone can put a fresh coat of paint on their compound wall knowing it is not going to be defaced.

Here is a picture that’s worth a thousand words. I was driving from Kodaikkanal to Bangalore and I was kind of lost. This is the guidance I got at an intersection in a Tamilnadu village. The translation of the poster reads – “Your Government Come, Come, Come !!! Bangalore is no different from this remote village.
We forward many email jokes a day. If you have a similar picture, mail it to your friends. Create an email chain for a good cause. You may mark a copy to me at jrbyju@gmail.com.
